WebMember is renamed for marketing

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

After serious consideration, our membership software WebMember was renamed at a company board meeting this weekend—effective immediately.

The new product name is PHPMembers, the same as our domain name. It it easier for users to remember our website and product, and avoid confusions may caused by the different names which were used by the website and product. Your license is not affected by the name changing. It is a marketing decision only.

If you have any questions or concern, please feel free to contact us.

WebMember Version 1.2.0 Released

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

A new version was released. We added two new features in the new version. One of them is the login form that you can put on any web pages on your website. It helps WebMember to be integrated with your site in a better manner. Another new feature is anti-spam function. You can stop robots signing up fake accounts now.

We also fixed the missing link of System -> Check For Updates on the main menu, and a mistaken link in the Username plug-in.

To upgrade your WebMember system, please download the non-commercial package or commercial package from the website. Then copy the following files from the package to your website:

  • /js/login.js.php
  • /languages/*.*
  • /lib/menu.block.php
  • /lib/database.inc.php
  • /lib/antispam.functions.php
  • /code_image.php
  • /get_code.php
  • /get_password.php
  • /signup.php

If you installed Username Plug-in, you need to copy the following file to your website:

  • /plug-ins/username/signup.php
  • /plug-ins/username/languages/*.*

To learn how to place login form on web pages, please visit the support page. The form is available in both vertical and horizontal styles.

The anti-spam feature is turned on by default if you have GD library installed. You may need to assign a temporary folder for it to make it work. For more details please visit How to Turn On/Off Anti-spam.

Protect Your PHP Pages in CGI Mode

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

One of our clients is running PHP in CGI mode. He had trouble to protect the PHP pages in a protected folder. It is caused by the way Apache handles PHP request when PHP is run in CGI mode. Since Apache will send any PHP based request directly to the PHP executable, folder and link protections do not work on PHP pages in this case.

If you are running PHP as a CGI binary and not in library mode, you need to put a few lines of PHP script at the beginning of the PHP pages you would like to protect. You can get the code from How to Protect a PHP Page.
